According to ayurveda, a dosha is one of three unique mind-body types, or biological constitutions. Each of the three doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha- expresses a singular blend of physical, mental and emotional characteristics. Specific ayurvedic recommendations (herbal remedies, protocols, asanas, mantras, dietary guidelines, etc.) exist to balance each Dosha. For example, cooling, alkaline foods and yin exercises may be proposed to pacify a Pitta type who is already yang and fiery at baseline; caffeine and cayenne pepper would aggravate this Dosha.
